You can copy old or rarely used files from your computer to recordable CDs or DVDs, tape cartridges or an external hard drive. You can then remove the files from your computer to provide more storage space on your hard drive.

To increase the amount of free space on a hard drive, you can delete programs you no longer use. If you keep the installation discs for the programs you remove, you can always re-install the programs if you later decide you want to use the programs again.
